William Whitehead

Welcome to the website of William Whitehead, concert organist and accompanist. The following pages give some information about my activities, plus details of how to contact me.

‘King of Instruments’, or so Mozart said, but ‘King of Musical Instruments’ is the level that this organist strives for! Passionate about making the pipe organ a real and vibrant musical experience, William presents concerts, masterclasses and other events, all beamed towards making music come alive on this, the most mechanical of all instruments.

First-prize winner at the Odense International Organ Competition, Denmark, in 2004, William has established a reputation for engaging and inspiring playing. His disc, 'Dances of Life and Death', music by Duruflé and Alain, was awarded a Diapason Découverte in Diapason magazine and 5-star reviews elsewhere. He is now sought after as a recitalist, teacher, examiner and jury member.

*NEWS*

William will be touring as accompanist to the Gabrieli Consort again- back to the amazing city of Wroclaw in September, for a programme of Bach and Mendelssohn

The microphones are out again!: A recording on the 1723 Jordan organ, recently restored by Manders, situated in West London, will happen in September, with Regent Records. Now the search for repertoire......Blow, Purcell, Pepusch, Roseingrave, methinks......

A repeat performance of the Dream of Gerontius happens in Birmingham Town Hall, 18th September with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and Ex Cathedra, conducted by Jeffrey Skidmore. Do you know the bit where Elgar wanted 'more organ'? Well, we'll give it....
